Clinical / FDA-approved — Protocol evidence level
Dual-nature entry. The FDA-approved obstetric use is IV/IM and is administered ONLY by clinicians in a hospital setting for labor induction/augmentation and postpartum hemorrhage, dosed in milliunits/min by titrated infusion. A separate community 'research' use is subcutaneous for social/anxiety effects; that evidence is weak and frequently fails to replicate, and this use is not approved.

Contraindications — Do not use if:
- •Obstetric: any condition where vaginal delivery is contraindicated (e.g., cord prolapse, placenta previa, fetal distress) — clinician judgment only
- •Hypersensitivity to oxytocin
- •Community 'research' use: not evaluated for safety as a self-administered product
