Tesamorelin

Also known as: Tesamorelin acetate, TH9507, Egrifta, Egrifta SV

Clinical / FDA-approved — Protocol evidence level

FDA-approved (Egrifta) GHRH analog for the reduction of excess abdominal fat in HIV-associated lipodystrophy. The original Egrifta is 2 mg SC once daily; the EGRIFTA SV reformulation is 1.4 mg SC once daily. Off-label use for general body composition or anti-aging is not proven and not approved.

Contraindications — Do not use if:
  • Pregnancy (Egrifta is contraindicated — discontinue if pregnancy occurs)
  • Disruption of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis (hypophysectomy, hypopituitarism, pituitary tumor/surgery, head irradiation/trauma)
  • Active malignancy
  • Hypersensitivity to tesamorelin or mannitol
